Materials

For your convenience, we will keep a list of the materials used throughout this project.  The materials we use will not necessarily be the ones recommended in the Plan Book.  We will indicate where we have deviated from the original requirements, to give you an idea of how things can be (and are) done differently.   The material list will be built as we need / use it.  You hardly expected this construction team to stick to the original plan, did you?

Material Plan calls for: What we did:
Wood 1 4' X 8' 3/8" plywood We used 3/8" MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard)
Glue Carpenters glue We used Carpenters and Tacky glue
Nails 7/8" finishing nails We used 3/4" finishing nails
Shingles cedar shingles, approximately 180 3/4" shingles We decided to go with copper roofing:
36 gauge Copper Tooling Foil
Wood strips 3/16" X 3/16" basswood for fluted roof, 11 feet We actually listened! We used closer to 20 feet, since we changed the design to copper roofing for both roofs
Doors Two required We used the Yorkton design, which will give us a few problems when the proper pediments (door tops) are installed, because they'll overlap the window trim.
Revision: Instead of changing pediments, we added a piece of dentil molding to the existing doors.
Windows, First floor 2 "picture" windows Got 'em, what's next?
Windows, Second floor 5 double-hung windows We used working windows, because they were available.   Your choice / preference.  We may use 6 windows, because we are thinking of adding a hole to a full wall.
Windows, Third floor 3 small windows We used a different design for these windows, as opposed to the second floor windows
Staircase One required The supplier (Da Boss) supplied the wrong size.   It could be that De Employee picked up the wrong size, but she won't admit that.
We used Houseworks #7000 Staircase kit
Flooring No specifications Florist Shop: Used MBS Peel & Stick Marble Tiles

Gift Shop: Used prefinished oak flooring sheets

Paint - exterior No specifications 1 can "stone" spray paint
2 cans exterior color (almond)
2 cans Trim (Hunter green)
Brick No specifications 1 package brick sheets
Brass nails No specifications Houseworks  Escutheon Pins #12006
3 packages
We used these for finishing the copper roof.  You can use regular brads, these nails have larger (and rounder) heads.
Tapewire No specifications We used 3 packages of the larger rolls.  However, it is highly unlikely that you would need this much, we deliberately over-wired this dollhouse.
Brads No specifications 1/4" was used for splicing the tapewire.
Baseboards No specifications We used BBB-16 baseboards.  For those of you doing round wiring, these baseboards have a channel for running wire.
Wallpaper
- Florist Shop
No specifications We used 3 sheets of prepasted vinyl wallpaper.
Wallpaper
- Ceilings
No specifications We used 6 sheets of this. It is not required, we prefer to cover the ceilings, so that the tapewire runs don't show.
Stones No specifications We used a little less than 2 packages of Andi Mini Fieldstone Veneer Blend.
Grout No specifications Regular tile grout available at your local hardware store.

"General" Supplies:  These are tools and supplies that you will need for most of the project.  Most miniaturists' *kits* include these staples.

- Measuring tape
- Metal Ruler (6" and 12")  Metal is better than plastic, particularly when using a blade for scoring (X-acto knife).  Glue will not damage the metal surface of the ruler, where it can etch plastic.
- Hammer
- Builder's Square
- Masking Tape
- Pencil
- Sandpaper - medium and fine grit
- Small hand saw
- Small miter box
- Small level
